OCT. 6, 2014 – Boeing announced today they will begin manufacturing parts of the 777X commercial airliner in St. Louis.
This historic move will not only significantly expand Boeing’s footprint in St. Louis, it will take the St. Louis region into the commercial aviation space.
The project will mean the creation of more than 700 new jobs and large investments in new manufacturing lines. This first step into commercial aviation positions the St. Louis region to compete for future projects in both military and commercial airplane manufacturing.
At its heart, this is a story of tenacity and teamwork. This is a remarkable and significant leap forward for the region, and it would not have been possible without the efforts of an extraordinary and dedicated team including: Gov. Jay Nixon, County Executive Charlie A. Dooley, Mayor Francis Slay, the Missouri Department of Economic Development, the St. Louis Regional Chamber, all our educational institutions and the Building and Construction Trades Council of St. Louis. Thanks for all the hard work! This marks a new chapter in St. Louis’ proud aviation history!
